Research on RAD 140 is in its infancy and they are few valid studies on this particular SARM. However, there is a solid study that used RAD 140 on patients who were suffering from cancer related weight loss (1). The study used RAD 140 because of its unique ability to select and bind to the muscle tissue. The results indicated that RAD 140 is stable, has a high bioavailability along with a very high anabolic nature. Let’s expand on this…
The results of the first stage of the study identified those individuals with muscle wastage caused by cancer, had an increase in muscle tissue after supplementing with RAD-140. These results are very impressive, in terms of the way that RAD-140 can stimulate new muscle tissue when the body is in a cancerous state. The study also listed the following benefits:

How RAD-140 works
RAd 140 is a powerful SARM designed to make the hormonal receptors (in the muscle tissue), act in a similar way as if they were getting a hit of testosterone. This mechanism sets off similar effects of cycling with steroids minus the side effects. Specifically, RAD 140 blasts the muscle cells with a mild increase in testosterone. This creates a wave of anabolic effects (increases muscle mass and blasts off fat). This scenario is similar to the impact that a larger dose of testosterone has on the body (1), but without the adverse side effects e.g. enlarged heart muscle, risk of heart attacks and high blood pressure.
Increases muscle mass
RAD-140 not only increases muscle mass, but it does it extremely quickly. Many lifters use RAD-140 to keep their testosterone level normal. Especially in between cycling with other performance enhancing drugs. The main reason behind this concept is that RAD-140 does sustain or increase strength levels in between these cycles. This is excellent for adding bulk. Plus, RAD-140 does not cause damage to the liver. However, the lifter should time both cycles so that they have a ‘post therapy cycle’ period from all performance enhancing drugs. This allows the body to recovery properly and for natural testosterone levels to return back to their normal range!
How RAD-140 builds muscle tissue
Similar to many types of SARMs, RAD 140 binds to the androgen receptors but it does not convert DHT (dihydrotestosterone) into estrogen. Estrogen conversion is the main issue connected with taking steroids; as this can lead to many side effects e.g. man boobs, hair loss, water retention and an increase in body fat.
Specifically, Rad-140 targets the bone and muscle receptors cells and this is why it has such a high anabolic impact within the body. This is good news for developing and protecting muscle tissues- this is why RAD-140 is such a popular SARM within lifting circles!
Interestingly, RAD-140 is often used an alternative to hormone replacement therapy in men with diminished testosterone levels. There is no risk of developing prostate cancer with RAD-140, because it doesn’t have a binding affinity with the tissue of the prostate.
The effects of RAD 140
From the current research, we can determine that RAD-140 can be used for both boosting muscle mass and for preserving your hard earned gains. This means that you can take RAD 140 for both the cutting and bulking stages of your training program. You can expect to achieve significant gains in muscle mass without water retention, aching joints and man boobs. These are often associated with steroid use. Hence, you will achieve clean gains when supplementing with RAD-140.
The Cutting Phase
Due to its muscle protecting qualities, RAD 140 should be in your supplement arsenal during this important phase. Unfortunately, there will be a slight amount of muscle wastage during the cutting phase due to the body being in a calorie deficit state. Many bodybuilders tend to manipulate their calorie intake, to try and drop their % body fat ready for competition or for the beach body look.
This can have some serious ramifications on your muscle mass, as the body begins to use the muscle tissue as a fuel. In essence the body begins to cannibalize itself. This survival mechanism can be avoided in two ways. Firstly, supplement with casein protein as this takes longer to absorb. And the body can use this as a sustainable fuel source. Secondly, use RAD-140 to ultimately protect your hard-earned gains during this tricky phase.
We have established that RAD-140 is a potent SARM for building new muscle tissue. Therefore supplementing with RAD-140, whilst eating a high protein diet and following the right training protocol is absolutely vital. A key point to consider is that when bulking the muscle needs constant stimulation to grow effectively. Otherwise it does get bored.

Dosage and Stacking
It is recommended that that you take between 20-30mg of RAD-140 on a daily basis for no more than a 12 week cycle. Take a 4 week break off RAD-140, and then you can begin the cycle again. You can use for both cutting and bulking, as it protects your muscle tissue and builds muscle mass. It can be stacked with MK-677 (please read the MK-677 for more information on this SARM).
The current research indicates that there are no side effects associated with RAD 140. The main reason is because this SARM does not have an estrogenic nature. Thus, there are no reported health issues such as: water retention, bloating, gynecomastia, acne, hair loss, prostate issues, liver toxicity, cardiovascular or high blood pressure associated with RAD-140.
